I never intended to become a software engineer. As a kid, I would play Pokemon, watch YouTube videos, and scroll through Reddit, but I never thought I could become someone who built those things. I thought you had to be a certain type of person to do that, and I wasn't one of them.

But in 2018, on a whim, I decided to try and become a software engineer. Over six years, I went from printing my first "Hello World" on a console to working on an application used by more than 66 thousand medical researchers across Australia. I've since realised we all could build anything if we actually tried. And not only that, but we could also build it better than the engineers before us. All it took was enough Googling, enough nights at a screen scratching your head and enough care about what you were building.

I'm Aidan Do, a software engineer with over two years of experience. I'm now working at Canva, an online design platform with with over 150 million monthly active users, on the Revenue Fraud Prevention team.

While I never initially planned to become a software engineer, nowadays, I look forward to building cool things with people who care about what they do.
